As SVP, Managing Director, EMEA, Matt is the driving force behind R/GA London’s long-term vision and continued business success after a period of rapid growth. As the office continues to steadily expand and scale its staff, client portfolio, and offerings, Matt’s 10 years of industry experience will play an invaluable part in ensuring that the right working practices and culture are in place to allow the agency to act as a trusted partner to its clients and continue to collaborate with them to transform business problems into new business models. During his time at R/GA London, Matt has overseen the development of new offerings such as the Digital Lab and the Digital Production Studio, along with playing a key role in nurturing the long-term client partnerships that have supported the office’s growth.
Matt joined R/GA from AKQA, where he held the position of Global Delivery Director for Nike. During this time, he worked as a client-facing delivery expert, responsible for building and managing cross-disciplinary teams, while also overseeing the structuring and management of the delivery of all Nike work globally. Prior to Nike, Matt worked on the launch of the Coca-Cola and iTunes partnership and alongside blue-chip companies including Virgin, Microsoft, and Sky. Some of his career highlights to date include the globally recognized Nike+ Training Club app; Nike Football’s “Write the Future” platform, which won the Gold Integrated Lion; and more recently, Nike’s “Make It Count” social engagement platform.

James leads the continuous evolution of R/GA London, driving strategic and creative vision and consistently ranking as one of the top agencies in the world.

In 2006 James started at R/GA New York and soon afterwards became a founding member of R/GA London, determined to become one of the elite agencies in Europe and a genuine peer to R/GA’s famed NY headquarters. He’s since grown an office of over 300 people, heads up EMEA offices across Stockholm, Bucharest and Istanbul, and has forged lasting partnerships with brands such as Beats by Dre, Disney, Dyson, Google, Heineken, Nike and Unilever. Under his leadership, the agency has won every major creative award including Gold Lions, Gold Clios, Gold LIA’s, a Eurobest Grand Prix, and been named Creative Review’s Creative Agency of the Year, Campaign’s Innovation Agency of the Year two years in a row, Ad Age’s #2 International Agency of the Year and Ad Age’s #2 Global Creativity Innovators of the Year, and top 10 on the Global Gunn Report. James is a sought after judge for major award show juries, including the Clios, Cannes Cyber and Titanium Lions, and the D&AD Black Pencil. He’s a long-term member of Campaign’s A-List, a UK Board Member of the Mobile Marketing Association, a regular mentor on R/GA’s Accelerator programs and is widely recognized as an industry thought leader.
The creator of R/GA’s global partnership with Beats by Dre, James has developed award winning integrated campaigns as well as the branding, design and marketing of Beats Music, the innovative service at the centre of Apple’s largest acquisition.
Beginning his career in Toronto and New York, James has consistently created ideas and experiences that evolve brands’ businesses and enhance people’s everyday lives. From developing America’s first online banking system to designing the Order Management System of the New York Stock Exchange, and from hijacking the Olympics with Nike and Beats by Dr. Dre to creating the definitive curated subscription service, Beats Music.
