Momentum Worldwide Acquires ChaseDesign Shopper Design Consultancy

  • ChaseDesign to advance with existing leadership, expanded resources
  • Momentum accesses ChaseDesign’s design and shopper expertise

NEW YORK –August 8, 2012 – Momentum Worldwide, a global marketing agency within McCann Worldgroup, a unit of the Interpublic Group of Companies (NYSE:IPG), has acquired design consultancy ChaseDesign and their subsidiary 10Red Design in a deal announced today by Momentum CEO/Chairman Chris Weil. ChaseDesign is one of the original design consulting firms in the U.S., with a 54-year legacy of providing specialized design services to an elite core of Fortune 100 clients. With this partnership, Momentum creates a world-class, comprehensive shopper marketing offering – with global resources and talent encompassing shopper research, behavior-based retailing technology and e-commerce across out-of-store, in-store and point-of-purchase – poised to lead in the massively booming shopper marketing sector.

ChaseDesign and 10Red will continue to operate as autonomous brands with their own sets of clients – under the leadership and management of President Marty Cregg and Executive Vice President Peter Lynch – and the two companies will work in strategic alignment with Momentum to pursue growth opportunities for clients and leverage the combined organizations to create new capabilities for CPG companies.

ChaseDesign’s shopper-based design innovation will complement Momentum Worldwide’s shopper marketing capabilities – including out-of-store communications and global footprint – to create the first truly global physical and digital retailing firm. Momentum brings a full range of brand experience services including retail promotions, event, sponsorship, music, entertainment, content and beyond, coupled with ChaseDesign’s capabilities in product innovation, package design and shopper experiences to provide shared clients and partners with new offerings and opportunities.

Over the last 20 years, ChaseDesign has expanded its capabilities into branding, packaging, user research and product design, developing one of the only firms in the U.S. with multidisciplinary design studios under one management team. Specifically, ChaseDesign’s award-winning product design group now augments Momentum offerings through industrial design, engineering, model labs and prototype facilities.

The partnered agencies will initially focus on U.S. growth opportunities and client support, though the deal’s alignment of ChaseDesign with Momentum’s global network of resources, talent and connections provides growth opportunities on a new worldwide scale – beginning in Europe, South America and China.

Momentum has made many recent moves to expand its capabilities in the creation of immersive, valued experiences, including the creation of content production unit Momentum Entertainment Group and its alignment with publicity, talent and entertainment agency PMK*BNC.

A recent study by the Grocery Manufacturers Association estimates that shopper marketing across the retail sector is now a $50-$60 billion category, and is expected to expand its growth at an annual rate of 15 percent.
