Microsoft Studios’ Xbox LIVE Arcade division works with independent developers to ship popular games including Killer Instinct, Minecraft, and Ascend. Before the Xbox One launch, Xbox LIVE Arcade games had a central, community-based site at www.Playxbla.com to share information about the Studio games. In parallel with the Xbox One launch, the Microsoft Xbox LIVE Arcade team rebranded PlayXBLA to Launchworks. The rebrand would entail a stronger emphasis on community based content and game title details, including news, screenshots, guides, events, and forums.
SMITH built the launchworks.net site on Compass, a CMS solution created by Microsoft, from the ground up, starting with UX and content-requirements gathering, building wireframes and establishing the look and feel for the site. An in-game version of Launchworks called MELD had been in the works for months and shared the same content as Launchworks, so it was crucial that we work collaboratively with the MELD team to ensure we were working within existing parameters. SMITH was also responsible for the development and QA of the site.
