The Many Faces We Meet

My name is Jermaine A. Richards, Deutsch Intern (Account Management discipline) from the MAIP 2015 Class, and I am an aficionado of: writing, art, advertising and all things correlating. I’d like to paint a picture of a realization I’ve had while being here these past two weeks.

I’m honored to be here, those words being strong enough to carve into stone for they mean something to me; an experience.

“Tomorrow is coming whether you’re ready or not” is what Vonda LePage (EVP, Director of Corporate Communications at Deutsch) told me recently “…and be a sponge” she advised. “Make everything count” is what I told myself to be ready for this “tomorrow.”

A huge part of understanding this whole experience as an intern has meant taking advantage of the many opportunities that are at our disposal; and cultivating relationships in an industry that prides itself on cultural diversity.

Prior to coming here, the 4As (American Association of Advertising Agencies) hosted an orientation in preparing the MAIP (Multicultural Advertising Internship Program) class of 2015 for their internships. Singleton Beato (EVP of Diversity & Inclusion Strategy and Talent Development) gave an insightful perspective by telling us that the people we meet now may very well be in our network for the rest our lives. We may formulate friendships that will last an eternity, and form bonds that will live long after this experience has concluded. For me, that means nurturing the bonds I’ve created within MAIP, and all those I’ve met at Deutsch this summer.

I come from a strong background in advertising, having attended The High School for Innovations in Advertising & Media, a 4As initiative High School. At school, it was always about expanding and growing our awareness and sense of self to connect to the world around us.

Advertising is a social industry driven by communication and the interplay of relationships, in the various fields of expertise.

During my internship I have met, and enjoyed sharing a common vision with my fellow interns and it’s been an amazing journey thus far.

My time here is still “young,” and I can only imagine how many great realizations I will come upon learning my craft from a team solely dedicated to creating excellence for their clients, while nurturing the talent within their own agency.
