Catching up with our two 2014 D-Prep Grads

As we kick off the intern season, I thought we’d take some time to revisit last year and talk about the goals for 2015.

Scorecard for 2014: 10 interns, 2 hires, a social app, and a Betta fish named Clementine. We feel we did pretty well. So to fact check this, we followed up with our two D-Prep Grads get their feedback and memories from 2014 and see how they are fitting into the Deutsch culture.

Jeff Kwiatek was making a career out of internships and freelancing before he joined us last year for D-Prep. “The best” was the way he described last summer. He had never felt a connection with a group of creatives in that way before. He remembers that the group had clear goals on their social app project (which is still in Beta) and felt that the team got exposure to the industry in a way that was different. At one point the whole team was working on a pitch. This year, Jeff has been spending quality time working on Pizza Hut and Dr. Pepper, which he loves, and was lucky enough to be paired up with this guy as his partner: andrewkapamajian.com.

Janet Shih went to art school, but after coming in as an “inventionist” intern, and after hanging out with our awesome strategy department, found that she wanted to be a digital strategist. Yay for us. Something she would change about D-Prep would be to have a product design intern to help with prototyping.

A piece of valuable advice she got from a creative mentor: “take advantage of being a D- Prepper and pursue whatever you want – you won’t get into trouble.”
