AKQA has announced this year’s Future Lions School of the Year as Miami Ad School Europe in Hamburg. The German branch of the Miami Ad School achieved the greatest number of shortlisted finalists in the global competition. This is the third consecutive year that the School has earned the honour.

In collaboration with the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, AKQA is hosting Future Lions for the eighth year in a row. The annual competition challenges students to advertise a global brand in a way that would not have been possible five years ago.

This year’s competition, on the theme of ‘Destiny Awaits’, has been one of the most successful to date. With nearly 1,500 entries from students around the globe, Future Lions 2013 reached new countries from South America and eastern Europe, while submissions from Russia and the Asia-Pacific region doubled from last year.

AKQA Chief Creative Officer James Hilton commented: ‘We are delighted to award Miami Ad School Europe in Hamburg as the Future Lions School of the Year for the third year in a row. This recognition is testament to the School’s proven track record in producing some of the world's most innovative thinkers. And as this year’s competition saw more entries, with more countries and schools participating than ever before, the students and teachers of Miami Ad School Europe should feel enormously proud of their achievement. We salute you.’

Niklas Frings-Rupp, Managing Director of Miami Ad School Europe in Hamburg, said: ‘Future Lions is the creative student competition globally that we are always super-excited about entering as it offers a unique platform for young talent to showcase their work and kick-start their careers. It’s such an honour to win School of the Year again this year, and a great acknowledgement of our students’ forward-thinking ideas.’

Andrew Diprose, Art Director of WIRED UK, will present the iconic Future Lions trophy to the school onstage at the 60th Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. Celebrating the competition’s emphasis on creativity and innovation, WIRED UK is media partner for Future Lions 2013.

The awards ceremony will take place on Thursday 20 June in the Grand Audi Theatre at 17:00 CEST. AKQA founding partners CEO Ajaz Ahmed and CCO James Hilton will host the awards seminar, where the five winning teams for Future Lions 2013 will also be announced.
