Video a superb way to showcase student living at Keele

Going to university is a life-changing experience – in terms of education on the one hand, but also in terms of lifestyle. But how do universities go about giving students a genuine feel for where they’re going to be living? Well, video can play a big part.

There’s much more to a student halls of residence than just the bricks and mortar; it’s also the wider facilities at the students’ disposal and the all-round atmosphere.

When choosing their accommodation, students want to feel confident they’ll make plenty of new friends. But at the same time, they want to be sure that when they want to work hard, they’ll have everything they need to do that too.

And it’s in conveying this fully rounded view of student living where a well-produced video really shines in comparison to a static webpage – a point underlined by the accommodation series we recently produced for Keele University.

Keele’s brief to Spectrecom was to shoot in each of its five halls of residence (Lindsay, Horwood, Hawthorns, Barnes and Holly Cross & the Oaks), showcasing the facilities, the welcoming atmosphere and fun of communal living.

Filming over the course of a week, we shot with a different key contributor at each halls, allowing them to provide viewers with a very warm, very personal perspective on what life in their halls is like and why they love it (and Keele) so much.

As a long-term video production partner of Keele University, our existing archive was very useful in augmenting the new content we captured.

This means that viewers don’t just see the halls; they also get a preview of the wider Keele campus (and in the glory of the summer sunshine no less). Onscreen graphics are used to highlight key features in each halls.
