Story | The idea was the create a book about the greatest movies of all times, illustrated in the shortest possible way using only graphical icons. The objective was to represent the 150 most famous films in a funny, surprising and unexpected way, and arrange them into a graphically catchy and interesting editorial design. The book had to be funny and entertaining as were the movies which originated it. The overall look is very clean and minimal. It was a constant effort of “taking away” and simplifying, because the book concept itself is based on reducing the movies to their bare essentials. The IdeaHow can you not love movies? But it’s not always easy to find a spare 238 minutesfor the umpteenth viewing of Gone with the Wind. Film in Five Seconds gives you a solution illustrating the greatest films ever in the shortest possible way, using only graphical icons. It is a simple system, called ‘Shortology’. Basically, it involves removing all the unnecessary bits, to leave you with just the essential icons of your favourite movies, from E.T. to Django Unchained, Titanic, The Blues Brothers, American Beauty, The Shining and many more. The BookThe book is like a quiz, and the game is to guess the film from the graphics without looking at the answers at the back of the book. The subjects encompass every kind of film genres: all time classics (Metropolis, Citizen Kane, Seven Samurai, The Great Dictator), comedy (Some Like It Hot, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, When Harry Met Sally), sci-fi (2001 – A Space Odyssey, Star Wars, Inception), crime (Goodfellas, The Godfather, The Departed), animation (The Lion King, Finding Nemo, Ratatouille) up to the latest releases (The Hangover, Argo, The Dark Knight, Zero Dark Thirty). The ResultsFilm in Five Seconds was published in the Uk by Quercus Books and will be soon released also in Italy (Rizzoli), Germany (Fischer Verlag), The Netherlands (BBNC), Japan, Usa, Spain, France and other countries. Besides the books, Film in Five Seconds goes on regularly on a facebook page, and became also a series of posters, t-shirts, videos and merchandising. |
