Story Human trafficking is believed to be one of the fastest-growing criminal industries in the world. However it often remains hidden from public view, allowing traffickers to evade detection by law enforcement. In 2010 the Mayor’s Office of New York, NYC Media and the Somali Mam Foundation launched a new public-education campaign called “Let’s Call an End to Human Trafficking” to raise awareness about human trafficking and encourage New Yorkers to report potential trafficking situations.

In 2011 for the second year running Grey New worked pro bono on the “Let’s Call an End to Human Trafficking” community awareness campaign to help bring human trafficking out of the shadows.

The multi-media campaign in Spanish, Chinese, Korean and Russian, features silhouettes of everyday people who may be affected by trafficking. Narrated by the Academy Award-winning actress, Emma Thompson, a powerful video illustrates the exploitation and control involved in the crime, as well as providing information about the signs of human trafficking, how to report it and what New Yorkers can do to get help.

The video is airing in taxis around the city and on the City website www. nyc.gov. The campaign also includes print ads, transit posters and palm cards that alert New Yorkers to how they can help in ending this crime of exploitation.
