Story VICE News Tonight, the Emmy®-winning nightly newscast and Virtue, the agency born from VICE, have released Overload, the first-ever television commercial for the award-winning nightly newscast. Overload aims to showcase the contrast between VICE News Tonight and other news programs; demonstrating how the show is truly in a league of its own with its in-the-field, world-class reporting from diverse journalists across the globe. The spot opens to two mannequins sitting in a living room as a montage of talking heads projects across the room and washes over them. As the droning sound reaches a climax, the TV and lights flicker, changing the channel to VICE TV. It isn’t until VICE News Tonight comes on the screen that we begin to see the room, and the mannequins, come to life. “VICE News Tonight is a thrilling brand to work on creatively. Not only because they’re our colleagues and VICE family, but because they’re pushing back on what news is. What news is supposed to be. What news should be showing the world. There really is no other show like it.” said Genie Gurnani, Executive Creative Director & Head of Creative, Virtue, Americas. “We made Overload to remind audiences that there’s an alternative to the 24-hour maelstrom of soundbites and punditry that’s out there.” The campaign was a collaborative effort across many of the VICE Media Group’s lines of business. With VICE News as the client, Virtue as the creative agency, and Pulse Films and VICE+Productions bringing their directorial and production expertise. “The collaboration on this campaign shows the incredible 360 capabilities that exist within the VICE Media Group family,” said Jesse Angelo, President, Global News & Entertainment, VICE Media Group. As the world around us continues to shift and evolve, so should our approach to connecting with audiences. Through raw, immersive and fearless journalism, I'm proud to say we're shaking up the status quo." The campaign release comes at an exciting time for VICE News Tonight, as just this past week, the show held its title for a third consecutive year as the most awarded nightly newscast at the News & Documentary Emmy® Awards. It earned a total of 18 nominations, also becoming the most nominated news show in 2020. To date, VICE News Tonight has received 14 Emmy® wins and 51 nominations. VICE News Tonight can be seen on VICE TV Monday through Thursday 11:00 PM.
