BASIC/DEPT® names Ashley Reichel CEO and Announces Leadership Changes

Global branding and experience design agency BASIC/DEPT® has named Ashley Reichel CEO. She will step into the CEO role after leading operations for the agency for the past ten years, and current CEO Matt Faulk will assume a new role as Partner & Founder. The move comes at a time of continued fast growth for BASIC/DEPT® since joining DEPT® in 2020 as the agency continues transforming brands and culture – across the world.

Ashley has been a driving force behind helping BASIC/DEPT® scale from six to over 150 people. She also built client-agency collaboration models for innovative embedded and colocated partnerships with clients like Google and Airbnb. The move comes shortly after the agency's VP of Creative, Steve Denekas, stepped into a global role with DEPT® as Global SVP of Experience, alongside Liza Enebeis from STUDIO DUMBAR/DEPT®, to drive forward creativity and design craft across the full organization.

“This is a really exciting time to be stepping into this role at BASIC/DEPT®, and I am honored to do it,” said Reichel. “The caliber of work and craft coming out of the agency is the best it’s ever been. We are working with some of the best clients in the world, and most importantly, it is our talented team of people that have gotten us to where we are today. Matt has built something truly special, and as we look to the future we will stay true to our core values and double down on them in our next chapter.”

Going forward, Matt Faulk will support DEPT® and BASIC/DEPT® through branding, thought leadership, M&A and leading special projects. “I couldn’t be more proud to announce Ashley as our new CEO and I’m looking forward to working alongside her on our next phase of growth.” said Faulk.

Since joining DEPT® in 2020, BASIC/DEPT® has been the Webby Awards most recognized web/mobile agency for its groundbreaking work with brands like Patagonia, KFC, Cowboy, Google and Silver Oak. Additionally, BASIC/DEPT®’s cultural initiatives, Crafted®, which celebrates diversity and unites creators, and MOVES, which provides an in-depth look into imagining, designing and developing the new office, have also received numerous awards.

“Ashley has been instrumental in helping Matt build BASIC/DEPT® into a global leader in brand and experience design delivering outsized impact for clients,” said Dimi Albers, Global CEO of DEPT®. “I’m super excited to see the team continue to design impactful digital experiences that move culture under Ashley’s leadership and in collaboration with DEPT® teams across the world.”
