MLB teams are placing cardboard cutouts of loyal fans in ballpark stands to keep the spirit of the game alive this season during Covid-19 restrictions.  One MLB and Marlins superfan, Joaquin Oliver, has been spotted as a cutout at 14 different ballparks* this season as part of Change the Ref.


This is the only way he’ll be able to attend a game ever again; Joaquin was a victim of the Parkland shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School, the deadliest school shooting in our nation’s history.


Joaquin’s parents, Manuel and Patricia Oliver are committed to keeping Joaquin’s memory - and his love of the game – alive and are sending a powerful message by purchasing cardboard cutouts at ballparks across the country to highlight victims of gun violence.    In the two years since Parkland, there have been 83 additional school shootings and zero changes to federal gun laws. With 83 strikes and no outs, it’s time to vote the politicians who don’t enact new federal gun laws, out. 


The effort, called #CutOutTheBullshit even sparked interest from Oakland Athletics pitcher Jesus Luzardo who paid his respects at Joaquin’s cutout in the ballpark and shared on Twitter.
