Creative production company Derby announced today that it has signed renowned commercial director and filmmaker John Poliquin to its growing directorial roster.
Poliquin is an award-winning director best known for constantly pushing the envelope and creating distinct and unforgettable work across all platforms. He has a strong sense of visual storytelling and has implemented his knowledge in combining both live-action and motion graphic techniques to create award-winning work for clients in the commercial, fashion and entertainment space, including Dillard’s, GQ, D’décor, Wilhelmina Models, Norman Ambrose, Tribeca Film, Warner Music, Interscope Records, Universal Music, S’well, Nestle Purina, Blistex and Lubriderm. He got his start in the business by directing more than 60 music videos for artists including Carly Rae Jepsen and Walk Off The Earth. Poliquin has since garnered a number of industry accolades, including MTV’s MuchMusic award; “Best Short Film” at the Calgary International Film Festival for Inside Charlie; recognition as the “One To Watch” at the One Show in 2015; and most recently the Award of Excellence at the Communicator Awards for last year’s S’well campaign, “Hydration Magic,” a project he worked on with Derby’s Executive Producer, Mary Crosse.
“John is beyond just creative - he’s a visionary, and he’s able to express himself through so many unique skills and talents that extend from his strong sense of style and art direction, smart and bold storytelling and technical knowledge,” Crosse said. “The work he directs is better because of the post-production skills he brings to projects - from doing his own pre visualizations, editorial, graphics and effects, and often using a mixed media approach to create edgy and fun visuals. After knowing John for several years and getting to work together on a wide range of projects, I am so excited to have him formally join the Derby roster.”

Since the company launched in the fall of 2015, Derby has produced campaigns with its agency and brand partners for Listerine, Lucky Charms, Johnson & Johnson, Sauza, Erno Laszlo and many others.
