If you can’t see it, you can’t be it. But inspiration doesn’t necessarily need to whither away simply because the majority of jobs are on lock down during this worrying pandemic. Media and marketing services company ENGINE came up with a novel take on “Take Your Kids to Work Day” during the coronavirus: “ZOOM Your Kids to Work Day.”
As a global company with headquarters in New York and 16 locations across North America, the UK, Europe, and Asia-Pacific, ENGINE already knew its way around a ZOOM room. So, on April 23, the company hosted a variety of fun and educational activities for employees’ progeny using ZOOM’s cloud-based, peer-to-peer videoconferencing platform and software. Some—such as creative, insights and programmatic/tech sessions—linked directly to services ENGINE provides to clients and were taught by agency talent. Other classes on the agenda: a ballet/stretch class, “You’re the Expert,” a focus group conducted by the agency’s Cassandra insights team to explore how cool kids are spending time during the COVID crisis, and “Programming the ENGINE,” a coding class for kids presented by the EMX division.
About 50 kids between the ages of 4 and 17 tuned in for this year’s event.
“I loved the “Zoom Your Kids to Work Day” initiative (and so did my boys!). This was a clear demonstration of our values in action - Brave, Connected, and Original. We received amazing feedback from both parents and kids who participated. Most importantly, I feel that it brought all of our offices together for the day, engendering a real sense of community. I am excited for us to do this again next year – in person and via Zoom,” said Kasha Cacy, Global CEO, ENGINE.
Parents were encouraged to “Slack your #ENGINEkids selfies to the ENGINE US channel!” throughout the event. At the day’s conclusion, all participants (including children and fur children) were invited to join a townhall meeting where 300 employees and children received updates on the day’s proceedings and company news.
