Rankin has been directing music videos, commercials, online virals, documentaries and short films since 1997.
In May 2005, Rankin co-directed his debut feature film, The Lives of Saints. Written by Toni Grisoni (Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas), it won the grand jury prize at the Salento International Film Festival. Since 2009, Rankin has continued to direct independently on both commercial and personal projects.
His commercial credits include TVCs for brands such as Swatch, Rimmel, L’Oreal, Astor, Kleenex, Marks & Spencer, Nivea and Braun.
He has shot music videos for artists Nelly Furtado, Robyn, Kelly Rowland, Kelis, Azealia Banks, Example, The Enemy, Cheryl Cole and Sky Ferreira.
He works with his inhouse team of videographers/editors to shoot Making Ofs, mini-documentaries, live music performance and also fashion and beauty editorial moving image for his magazine’s website, hungertv.com
In 2011, Rankin set up Rankin Film Productions, to create a production base within the Rankin brand, creating content that includes dramas, short films, documentaries and feature films.
RFP also launched the nationwide short film scheme Collabor8te, providing opportunities for selected new filmmakers to get their projects funded while working with established industry professionals. Now in its second year, Collabor8te is working in partnership with Nokia to seek out the most exciting new filmmaking talent from the UK and Ireland.
Through RFP, Rankin has been the Executive Producer on the documentary ‘McCullin’, as well as over 15 short films including ‘Shoot Me!’ and ‘The Hungry Corpse’.
