Daniel Morcos

Daniel Morcos

Storytelling has been Daniel’s passion since the day he could stack Lego, and build elaborate shows with them to entertain his family. A childhood spent in Cyprus, Lebanon and Egypt exposed him to cultures rich in cinematic heritage and history. By the time he was 15 he’d shot two short films, appeared on national theatre...twice, directed two short plays, and had watched ‘Indiana Jones’ movies over 50 times. Two film schools and a student OSCAR nominated film later Daniel spent 15 years between the United States and South Africa, working in the film industry, primarily crafting his skills as an offline editor, working along side some of the best (and some of the worst) he learnt how best to tell a story. He considers his experiences in post production as the most valuable asset to his work as a director, and it strongly influences his creative choices. Daniel got into directing through music videos, a medium combining his favourite two things, music and film. Daniel is drawn to making the ordinary extraordinary, and his work is infused with a perspective that highlights the human experience in unexpected and visually spectacular ways. This has seen him work across multiple genres throughout Africa and the Middle East, and has earned him a few industry nods along the way. When not directing, Daniel can be found attempting Jiu Jitsu, building Lego, playing tennis badly, reading flight manuals and still watches ‘Indiana Jones’ movies.

PORTFOLIO

Born in Angola to a Portuguese father and an Italian mother, Bruno began life with a wide-open view of the world. So, it was no surprise that he chose to pursue a career in photography. A discipline he describes as the perfect combination of art and science. Telling stories through his photographic work led him into film-making. His work is as varied as his past from strong narrative pieces to action-packed cinematic style films to tightly observed comedy spots. Whatever the genre, his work shows his strength as a conceptual thinker which he believes is key to creating work that resonates with an audience. He is a master of the technical but the focus of his work remains on delivering a tight narrative through his captivating visuals. His work has been seen across the globe and has racked up quite a few awards along the way.

Mzo

Mzo is a writer and director who graduated from the New York Film Academy in 2015, having majored in Screenwriting & Directing. Originally from the small town of Klerksdorp, Mzo headed to Los Angeles after graduating where he joined a team of fresh, young directors - The High5Collective. Together they worked on numerous projects as both directors and content creators for companies such as Partizan and Ranchhand and produced music videos for artists like Tyler the Creator, Donald Glover (Childish Gambino) and Will i Am.

Mzo moved back to South Africa in 2016, where he worked as a freelancer at some of Cape Town’s leading production companies, which only served to remind him of how much he loved directing…

Currently in the process of developing a feature film, Mzo has joined Carbon Collective as one of our fresh, new directors.

Armed with the experience of having moved from Los Angeles to Langa, Mzo represents a unique cultural lens that draws from both global and authentic South African culture.
