Story | MUNCHIES: NICE CHOCOLATES, SHAME ABOUT THE NAME It pays to listen in advertising. When people talked about Munchies, they had no problem with the chocolates. On the contrary, they found them elegant and totally moreish. What they couldnt understand was why such a sophisticated brand had such a well, unimaginative name. Instead of ignoring the problem, Roose decided to make this the basis of the creative idea: a seductive female voice and romantic music set the scene for a classic chocolate-box commercial, only for the atmosphere to suddenly collapse as the voice-over complains whoever called them Munchies? This entertaining recognition of a product truth galvanizes sales every time the advertising is aired. It pays to listen. |
