Campaign I Am A Fool - Road Safety Authority
Advertiser Direccion General de Trafico
Brand Road Safety Authority
PostedNovember 2010
Business Sector Road Safety
Philosophy In the advertisement, drivers of a wide range of ages portray a succession of reckless and even absurd behaviour, but unfortunately common behaviour. They are the protagonists themselves that are singing and recognizing themselves as being less than smart by putting themselves at the risk of suffering an accident.
Problem Using an adaptation of the music from the Spanish version of the well-known The World of David the Gnome TV cartoon series and describing different risky situations that all drivers find themselves in at some stage when driving, the Road Safety Authority wants to convey that the smart thing to do, when driving a vehicle, is to reduce the risk. This is why the commercial ends with exactly this piece of advice "Be smart. Zero risks at the wheel".
Result The campaign, which is only broadcast at local level (Basque Country), has had great impact nationally, having even been announced on the news on various national TV stations and in Spanish newspapers. The same day it was broadcast, the commercial had already been downloaded 3,000 times on You Tube and the campaign was already being discussed on several social networks.
The Campaing started 19 days ago and right now the commercial has already been downloaded 40,000 times on You Tube.
