Story | GL-X, a division of Grand Large Inc., announces Director Francesco Carrozzinis innovative web based film Paint Balloons for Ray-Bans Colorize Never Hide campaign, introducing their new line of colored Wayfarer sunglasses. Noted for his thoughtful vision and organic style, Carrozzinis idea was to create a surreal environment with a very eccentric character. The viral was shot in a large open field with a broad horizon, integrating depth and space to emphasize the mood. |
Philosophy | In terms of the color and feel of the film I referenced Albert Lamorisses, The Red Balloon, giving each balloon a life of its own. This was a challenging project that allowed me to explore the creative freedom that comes with working with the Internet, explains director Francesco Carrozzini. |
Problem | The piece begins with a man wearing white Wayfarers who is approached by three balloons, each bursting paint onto his face and changing the color of his sunglasses. Surrounded by an infinite picturesque skyline, phantom physics balloons and detailed droplets of vibrant paint, we watch a literal explosion of elements come together to create an entertaining and unique piece. |
Result | Paint Balloons uses a variety of techniques including, live-action, 3D animation, compositing and the manipulation of time through speed ramping. It was shot using the high-speed Phantom HD, which captured the detailed slow-motion imagery. In addition, the emotional tone of the music and strong visual elements compliment the action of the viral video. |
