About me

I’ve been very fortunate in my chosen profession over the course of my career. I am inspired to develop and grow my skills, experience and expertise by staying current with all technological developments in my field of expertise.
I have strong interpersonal and communication skills and am able to build strong relationships with clients and relevant stakeholders to ensure both business and creative objectives are attained.
I have good problem-solving, attention to detail and critical thinking skills, excellent time and organisational management, costs and budget management skills and take a proactive approach to ensure that all expectations and outcomes are met.
I cannot wait to take my next photograph, I thrive on the challenge being a photographer. As an educated, accomplished and competent photographer each project brings unique challenges, both physical and mental.

My job description calls for me to bring together collaborative efforts of numerous creative disciplines into an exciting conceptual marketable image. I embrace all advances in technology and believe in using every means available to me to create memorable and stimulating imagery for my clients.
I have always aspired to being a photographer that does not create imagery that relies on post production, I strive to create photographs that reliably communicate my creative interpretation of the world around me.

Not a day goes by that I am not thankful for my chosen profession, being a photographer encompasses every attribute in my personality and I cannot imagine having any other vocation.

South Africa
1998 - Present (23 years 10 months)
Commercial photographer and member of Gerard Turnley Photography. Apart from being responsible for the visual interpretation and implementation of agencies conceptual briefs I am involved in both the pre-production and final post production. Pre-production involves location and tech recce's, talent casting, briefing stylists, set builders, choosing make-up and hair stylists. Post production mainly involves retouching and making sure color correction and quality standards are maintained.
My capabilities include automotive, portraiture, beauty, lifestyle, fashion, table top, landscapes and glass product photography.
In 2007 I attended various conferences and courses in Europe and the USA on the incorporation of CGi into our companies workflow. I use my Spheron HDRi camera to create high quality spheres that can be used in various applications to create photo realistic imagery, used in automobile photography, animation, 360 photography and numerous virtual applications.

I am able to utilize this technology and supply clients a unique extension to conventional photography and successfully service my automotive clients and beauty clients with the advances in technology.
To ensure I can supply my clients with the ultimate quality I have personally invested in various systems to achieve ultimate results, relative to the clients brief.

I work with Hasselblad, Spheron, Nikon, Canon and Phase One cameras and digital backs accompanied with Briese, Broncolor and Profoto lighting equipment. My software preferences include Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, Capture One, Phocus and Spherocam software.

In 2010 I purchased and converted a dilapidated water-tower on the roof of a building in Cape Town and converted it into arguably the most beautiful daylight studio I have ever had the pleasure of working in, 360 degree views encompassing city, harbor and mountains (including the famous Table Mountain).
It is often difficult to keep clients focussed on the job at hand.
