Story | Built in 1949, SickKids Hospital was in desperate need of an overhaul. The patients would do the job themselves if they could. And that's what this stunning black and white creation depicts. The film shows the young patients tearing apart their own neighbourhoods to salvage materials for a new hospital. The song "I'd Do Anything For You" gives the tale a jaunty and optimistic feel. A mob of kids are charging ౼ destructively ౼ towards something. They break tables, tear down cinder block walls, rip gutters off houses. Are they destroying something? Building something? As they continue running, we see IV bags, wheelchairs, prosthetic limbs. These kids are SickKids but they’re willing to tear apart their own neighborhoods to salvage materials for a new SickKids Hospital. At the end of the film, one child poignantly places a single brick in the middle of a sprawling lot. “We’re building a new SickKids. Join us.” |
