Dana Lytle

Dana Lytle

Principal / Creative Director at Planet Propaganda
Madison, United States

About me

Dana Lytle is an admitted type fanatic and old-school letterpress enthusiast who still makes prints in his basement on a Vandercook proof press. He believes that even the most beautiful graphic detail is powerless without a strategy to back it up, and that even the soundest strategy can benefit from some creative hoobajoob. Clients such as Gary Fisher Bicycles, 3form architectural materials, Gramicci apparel, and Bretford Furniture agree. So do a long line of publications and organizations, including Print, How, Communication Arts, Graphis, Chicago Athenaeum, and of course, Type Directors Club.

Lytle?s track record of right-on creative solutions has made him a sought-after speaker on the national design conference circuit. He?s judged numerous design competitions, for the likes of I.D. magazine, Communication Arts, and the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA). He and Planet cofounder Kevin Wade were named as two of the ?Top 40 to Watch? in 2004 in the graphic design industry.

Lytle hails from Hardin, Montana, and holds a degree in graphic design from Montana State University. Proving that you can?t take the Montana out of the boy, Lytle illustrated one of his first Planet projects using cattle markers.
