Tom Van Avermaet was born in Duffel on July 22 1982. After his secondary education, he enrolled as a student film at the RITS in Brussels. In 2006, he graduated with his first short film "Dreamtime" with distinction. His talent did not go unnoticed. "Dreamtime" won several awards at national and international film festivals.
Tom takes particular inspiration from mythology, fantasy books and comics. He looks up to directors like Guillermo Del Toro, Jean-Pierre Jeunet, Terry Gilliam, Tim Burton, Stanley Kubrick and Raoul Servais.
His first professional short film came only in 2012, but "Death of a shadow 'was an instant hit. The fantasy film is about Nathan Rijckx (role Schoenaerts), a soldier who died during the First World War, but gets another chance from a bizarre collector who has caught his shadow. In exchange for that second chance the soldier must also capture 10,000 shades.
'Death of a Shadow "has already won several prestigious awards at numerous film festivals, but the cap was only on 10 January 2013. Then it was announced that the short film likely made the Oscar for best short film.
Tom puts his passion for imaginative even further in terms of pub. He included the incomparable Luminus commercials. Tom to be for anything that just tad must go on, that little should be more ... Tom brings his full eigengerijde style always at a higher level.
