| Story | Campervan ads have one thing in common – they always show the car in a beautiful landscape, in front of beautiful sights. In our campaign, we were instead rethinking what it really means to go sightseeing. Our main interest was not the car itself but „tourist attractions“ shot on the rear view camera in the Volkswagen California – because sometimes the little things are equally as worth seeing as the big tourist attractions: We designed two different kinds of traffic bollards and a trash can as the Eiffel Tower, the Colosseum and the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Sculpting them from scratch using ZBrush with scanned and handpainted textures and countless layers, we had to make our full CGI renderings believable in every detail as both sights and traffic hazards. We also had to fit them perfectly into their backgrounds, choosing the best possible perspective to make them seem larger than life. Additionally, because our print campaign starts off the summer holidays in Europe and the Volkswagen California is often used for road trips during this time, we designed our objects in a way that would remind viewers of typical holiday postcards. |
| Problem | The Volkswagen California is the essential campervan. It can now be equipped with the optional rear view camera which makes reversing safer and easier by spotting obstacles quickly and easy. |
