Steve Drew

Steve Drew

Visual Effects Supervisor at Framestore
New York, United States

About me

Steve Drew brings a wealth of experience across a diversified skillset that covers feature films, advertising, broadcast programming and VR/AR experiences.
Steve Drew (the bloke in grey, above) is a Visual Effects Supervisor in New York City with over 20 years of experience in post production, and is the man writing this bio in the third person to give it a greater air of professionalism.

Since joining Framestore in 2015, Drew has overseen several commercial and virtual reality projects. Some have won him a D&AD Yellow Pencil, a Silver Clio, three VES nominations and one VES Award for Best Compositing on Apple’s HomePod commercial ‘Welcome Home’, directed by Spike Jonze.

Steve also works on the box as Senior Compositor and can pull a mean cortado.

Before moving to the USA, Drew was a Compositor at Iloura (now Method Studios, Melbourne), where he worked on more than a dozen feature films (good and bad), including Mad Max: Fury Road (good!), which was nominated for an Oscar for its Visual Effects at the 2016 Academy Awards. This last fact has little to do with his individual output on Mad Max, but is nonetheless too cool to leave out when writing a bio.

Prior to his career in VFX, Drew was a Film Editor, earning multiple awards for his work in Advertising and Television which spanned Australia, UK and Japan. He was also Post Supervisor and Managing Director of a boutique post house in his home town of Perth, Australia.

Ageing in a cabinet somewhere is a Diploma of Art & Design, Film & Television (1995-1997). In his spare time Drew (can we just call him Steve??) enjoys traditional archery and watching horror films. He may even write one someday
With an eclectic background of over 20 years as both artist and supervisor across the USA, London, Perth, Melbourne and Tokyo, Steve is uniquely placed to offer his expertise in both Compositing and on-set VFX Supervision, along with a strong understanding of narrative and pacing from more than a decade working as a Film Editor.
