Elysia Ravenscroft Interview(s)

PHNX Tribute Jury

Why did you think it was important to join the PHNX jury?
Creativity is more important now than ever. And recognizing great creative work can spark new thinking and serve as future inspiration. Anything we can do to keep driving the industry forward is crucial. And it's important to celebrate the award winning work of today, so I'm honoured to be a part of that.
What impact do you think the event might have on the industry?
So many in the industry are concerned for the future. Tough operations decisions are having to be made and they've created feelings of uncertainty. But regardless of what the world looks like on the other side of all this, what won't change is the need for creativity to affect change. I think we could all use a little reminding of that. This event gives the industry an opportunity to celebrate its successes, without feeling remorse for diverting funds from staff support to awards submissions.
What do you think of the hybrid jury, which includes strategists and journalists alongside creatives?
I think it's a great approach. Great creative is built over time even if it manifests in a moment. It's a collection of experiences, learnings, insights, and input from many sources that shapes and forms an idea in the mind. And once it's out there, it takes a village to refine and hone that work. It's all part of the creative process. Creative doesn't happen in a vacuum.
What will you be looking for when you start judging the entries?
An original, inspired thought.
What lasting impact might the current crisis have on creative work?
This crisis reminds us of what's important. Which will change how we approach creative work, how we hire for that creative work, how we run our organizations, and what we choose to invest in. It's a reset.
