Story WICKED – the global smash hit musical - partnered with theSkimm as their Broadway partner in their nonpartisan “No Excuses” campaign this fall ahead of election day on November 6th. Leveraging WICKED’s large, engaged fan base and ability to reach not only Broadway audiences, but also audiences across the country, the partnership used in-theatre promotion to reach audiences and encourage them to both register to vote and get to the polls on November 6th. In the Gershwin theatre on Broadway and at tour stops in Albuquerque, Houston and San Diego, audience goers were gifted a “Get Out The Vote” button as they left the theatre or visited merchandise booths. In addition, WICKED and theSkimm worked together to reach WICKED’s social following and email subscribers – as well as their website visitors. As this was also launched during WICKED’s 15th Anniversary celebrations – celebrating 15 years of performances on Broadway – this was a particularly high-traffic and engaged time for audiences and fans. Throughout the months of October and November, this campaign reached well over 100,000 audience members in the theatres alone. In addition to in-venue audiences, cast members on Broadway and across the country brought this message to press moments, fans at the stage door as well as to WICKED’s audience who was in attendance for the taping of NBC’s “A Very WICKED Halloween.” On social, the content promoting this partnership reached WICKED’s almost 2 million followers. Throughout the campaign, WICKED directed its audience to theSkimm's No Excuses microsite (theSkimm.com/NoExcuses) to register to vote, learn about the candidates and issues, build a sample ballot and commit to vote with theSkimm leading up to Election Day. theSkimm promoted WICKED's 15th Anniversary celebration in the Daily Skimm – their daily newsletter that reaches approximately 7 million subscribers every morning. In addition, theSkimm promoted the partnership across its social platforms of 2 million.
