Bear’s Den Washes Ashore in New Video

UK-based folk trio, Bear’s Den, is certainly not stuck creatively, but now they can say they know what stuck in the sand feels like. For their new video, Agape, edited by Paul Moth, and directed by Ed Sayers, the band gets buried fully clothed on the beaches of Devon.

The band’s Kev Jones explains the song and video:

“To me the song is partly about insecurity in a relationship, about never being able to shake that feeling, and how by default that feeling can lead to a relationship’s demise. I thought slowly sinking into the sand only to be engulfed in waves summed that up well, the feeling of inevitability brought on by your own thoughts and the sensation of restriction that can manifest itself in those situations… The shoot itself was a little more brutal that we had imagined, nothing can quite prepare you for being buried fully clothed in wet sand at 8AM on a January morning.”

In addition Bear’s Den did a nice little Twitter Q&A for their fans and we found out a few new tidbits. Here are some highlights:

@bearsdenmusic haha did you have to film the bit where the water hits you more than once? I would have probably shrieked the first few times
@NoMikeity There was a small amount of shrieking, but mostly we took it like men.
@NoMikeity OK, that was a lie, there was a lot of shrieking! Not sure how long we were in there for, the shoot took 2 days…

@bearsdenmusic #agapevideo who had the idea to bury you guys in the sand and did you say immediately YES to the idea?
@lejeunem Actually that was my idea (Kev here), I thought it kind of made sense with the lyrics in a weird sinister way

@bearsdenmusic how many people did it take to dig the holes and did they use a bucket and spade #agapevideo
@reedclan We had lots of practice runs, but in the end we worked out 3 people per hole did the job
@bearsdenmusic @reedclan we had buckets, spades, umbrellas, plywood, plastic sheeting, a jig-saw -everything you need for a day at’ seaside

@bearsdenmusic I love it!+ Was the video done in one take/session or did you have to get buried on multiple occasions?! (&did you mind?)
@floramoana99 The shoot took two days, so plenty of burying was happening throughout! We didn’t mind. Most of the time.
