Story | 'Dreams' is a journey into the dark world of child labour.Beginning with the sequence of a girl named,Tara, wiping the blackboard in a classroom, it shatters the perceived reality by showing Tara actually cleaning the glass window of a car.She is a cleaner and not a school student. Similarly, another sequence shows the tender hands of Bharat mixing colours in a palette. The visual deception breaks when the camera zooms to show the boy cleaning a dirty plate in a roadside restaurant. Then, there is Saleem, running with what appears as a baton on the track. In reality, he has a spanner in the hand. The split between the illusion and the reality symbolizes the rift between a childs dream and the harsh truth. The film ends by placing the children in school. |
Philosophy | The strategy is to make the better offs of society and make them feel responsible about child labour, because they let it happen. More than sympathy, the issue needs interference, an individual intervention. And education to such children will change the picture. |
Problem | Childhood is full of possibilities, and every child has dreams. But these possibilities never get explored, the talents dont bloom. The dreams die young. And the society has a numb sensitivity about the issue of child labour. There is apathy; the film seeks to break that apathy. |
