Title | Antisemitism Is Not Old News |
Brief | We reached out to Toronto Police Service's Hate Crimes Unit for relevant data on targeted hate crimes within the city. That data showed that Jewish people in Toronto have been more likely than any other group to be targeted in a hate crime for the last five years. Despite this reality, public perception does not match up; many still see antisemitism as a thing of the past. |

Story | For the past five years, the Jewish community has been the most targeted group for hate crimes in the city of Toronto. Despite comprising less than 4% of Toronto’s total population, Jewish people were targeted in just over 22% of hate crimes in 2021. We needed a way to not only make people aware of the ongoing violence that Toronto's Jewish community faces but also to snap people out of the misconception that antisemitism is a problem from the past. Despite what many think, antisemitism is not old news. |
