In the first film, a father looks nervous as he gives a present to his son, who is wearing nail varnish and feminine clothing. The son unwraps it – and looks delighted. It’s a Babyliss hair styling tool. Dad looks relieved he’s bought the right thing. The pair exchange a smile of mutual understanding. In the second film, a son gives a present to his mother, whose closely shaven head indicates that she may be undergoing treatment for cancer. When she unwraps the gift, it’s a hair dryer. After a moment’s hesitation, she grins. Because one day soon she’ll be well again. If you find the right gift, it can say everything for you.
