Tagline How long will we need to bleed?
Story 1 in 5 people who identify as LGBTI+ have been physically attacked because of their sexuality. And 1 in 3 gay men have been punched, hit or physically attacked in public.‘Rainbow Blood’ ran at the very end of Pride month in Ireland acting as a message of support after a string of hate crimes and homophobic graffiti darkened the festival. One example was the homophobic graffiti that appeared in Dublin city overnight. It showed the words ‘pedo bar’ painted on the wall and an arrow pointing in the direction of Pantibar, a well-known rainbow clad gay bar.The ‘Rainbow Blood’ press ad was an important reminder of why we must continue to support Pride, the LGBTI+ community and LGBTI+ youth charities such BeLonG To Youth Services. We need Pride until everyone can truly feel equal and safe in Irish society. A future that is hopefully somewhere over the rainbow. The print was accompanied by an equally power piece of radio. The spoken word poet FeliSpeaks takes us through all the safe spaces, places, and queer communities that the LGBTI+ people need to build in order to have somewhere safe and secure to be themselves, without the threat of physical violence. This performance was played nationwide on June 25th at 11.59am across local and independent stations - almost every single radio station in Ireland. It held the attention of the entire country for 60 seconds.LGBTI+ community at the end of pride month, after a string of homophobic graffiti darkened the celebrations.A reminder that we must continue to support Pride and LGBTI+ youth charities such BeLonG To Youth Services until everyone can feel equal and safe.Written and composed by spoken word artist, FeliSpeaks who is a member of the LGBTI+ community. The brand call to action was performed by Panti Bliss (Rory O’ Neill) a drag queen and LGBTI+ rights ambassador who led the fight for the Marriage Equality vote in 2015.This campaign has been a privilege to work on in partnership with BeLonG To Youth Services. Both press and radio ad concepts highlight the fear and violence that members of the LGBTI+ community continue to face every single day.’’
