Story Sea Shepherd hacks in cooking video tutorial Editing was made with real footage from overfishing of sharks commonly know in Brazil as “cação”(“dogfish”). Brazil is the world’s largest shark meat importer, and it ranks 9th among the biggest shark killers, which indirectly contributes to the death of 100 million sharks per year, do to unregulated practice of “finning”, i.e., the removal of the sharks’ fins in order to export them to Asian countries, putting those species at a serious risk of extinction. The avarage Brazilian eats sharks unknowingly, since they go by the name of “cação” in the local markets. 69% of Brazilians do not knows that “cação” are sharks or rays. They also don’t know that not only shark fishing causes irreversible damage to the sea life, it is also bad for the human body due to its high levels of heavy metals, such as mercury. It’s worth noting that the shark meat used in the film was acquired as part of a scientific research from the Cação é Tubarão (“dogfish are sharks”) campaign, in association with the Linha D’água Institute.
